A roadmap for sustainable turnaround

Before the pandemic, Charleston County School District faced years of declining achievement and some of South Carolina’s lowest-performing schools.

Partnering with Leading Educators, the district launched a turnaround model grounded in high-quality curriculum, embedded professional learning, and strong instructional leadership.

Within four years, student learning rebounded dramatically—math proficiency rose by up to 34% and literacy by 18%, outpacing comparable schools across the state and reversing a decade-long slide.
